Veteran anime watchers know that Superman and Wonder Woman marry, move to Graviton City, Japan and raise a daughter named A-ko and she develops a fierce rivalry with Iron Man's daughter, B-ko. Or at least that was the implicit back story of 1986's action comedy Project A-ko. Decades later, DC Comics is pulling the trigger on the S & W pairing.
A-ko's parents make a cameo appearence...
Entertainment Weekly broke the story that DC's 2011 reboot of their comic line did away with Superman's 1996 marriage to Lois Lane, paving the way Supers to hook up with Wonder Woman in Justice League #12.
The comic, which probably was really in no way inspired by A-ko, goes on sale August 29th.
“This is the new status quo,” says writer Geoff Johns, adding that the relationship will have a considerable impact on all the heroes and villains in the DC universe.
Artist Jim Lee's cover took inspiration from Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss and Alfred Eisenstaedt’s V-J Day in Times Square photograph. ”Hopefully this will raise a lot of eyebrows,” Lee says. “We welcome the watercooler chatter.”
