Many have been curious about what's next for Final Fantasy XIII protagonist Lightning following a few teases. Enter FFXIII project producer Yoshinori Kitase, as he introduces the new title, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.
The first video doesn't offer a ton of info on the new project—in true Final Fantasy tradition it spends about half its running time pontificating on crystals. We do know Lightning is a playable character, and you'll be able to "experience an active and expansive environment like never before."
However, there are more subtitled clips from the Final Fantasy 25th anniversary event for those who want to learn as much as possible about Lightning Returns. The presentation continues with:
Director Motomu Toriyama on the overall concept:
Game Design Director Yuji Abe on the new world and customization:
Art Director Isamu Kamikokuryo on the overall art direction:
Lightning Returns tasks Lighting with saving humanity in 13 days and 13 nights, all running on a real-time system that kicks off as soon as the game starts, a la Majora's Mask. Players will be able to control Lightning more dynamically, with the ability to hang off ledges, duck behind corners, and also move around freely during battle.
Lightning Returns is due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013. What do you want from the conclusion of Lightning's saga?
