"Smile PreCure!“ Makes No.1 Debut on Japanese Movie Charts

The first time in the franchise's history

Toei Animation's 13th and newest PreCure film, Smile PreCure!: Ehon no Naka wa Minna Chiguhagu! debuted at No.1 in Japan during the October 27-28 weekend, defeating the last week's winner The Expendables 2. This is the first PreCure film which takes the top spot on its debut weekend ranking. According to the tweet by a chief editor of the Movie Walker web site, the Smile PreCure! film was seen by 173,283 people across 170 cinemas in Japan, and earned 192,792,000 yen (about US$2,421,705) at the box office in the first two days of release. This is the fifth best opening record in the history of the PreCure films. The most successful film was PreCure All Stars DX2: Light of Hope☆Protect the Rainbow Jewel!, which released on March 20, 2010 and earned 318,521,200 yen (about US$4,003,534) in its first weekend.
