VIDEO: Momoiro Clover Z Goes Heavy Metal in "Metal Clone X"

Produced and arranged by Marty Friedman of Megadeth

We’ve been reporting a lot on idol group Momoiro Clover Z a lot lately, not only because the group provided the opening for the Bodacious Space Pirates anime, and will soon be delivering the theme song for the 2013 Sailor Moon revival, but because, honestly, no one else is doing WTF career moves in Japan quite like them.

Enter Metal Clone X, an officially sanctioned album of scary heavy metal covers of normally cute and peppy Momoiro Clover Z songs. The project is produced and arranged by Marty Friedman, former lead guitarist of metal monsters Megadeth, who is also know well known in Japan for being an unashamed idol fan. The idea might seem totally off the wall at first, but it seems there’s actually quite a bit of cross over between idol otaku and heavy metal (remember Babymetal?).

Now, Metal Clone X throws down the “very metal” gauntlet with the incredibly silly CGI promo video for the cover of the Momoiro standard “Z Legend – Never Ending Revolution”. In-jokes and weird cameos abound, including Santa Claus, grizzly bears, and dragons and…well, I think you need to just see this for yourself!

The Metal Clone X album (yes, there will be a full long-player of this nonsense) will drop in Japan on 12/5. In the meantime, compare their cover to the original “Z Legend – Never Ending Revolution” as sung by the girls themselves below!
