"Final Fantasy" Artist Gives Cloud and Others an Old School Makeover

Kasuko Shibuya makes pixel art versions of FF VII-XIII characters

Imagine a world in which the visual style of Final Fantasy remained unaltered, tethered forever to the world of sprites. Square Enix may have gone polygonal back in the PlayStation One days, but they had pixel artist Kasuko Shibuya whip up a bunch of pixel art heroes, including characters from FFVII-XIII, for Final Fantasy's 25th anniversary.

Fans were asked which characters they'd like to see grace the cover of the Final Fantasy Tribute ~Thanks~ album, and Shibuya—an artist on the original Famicom Final Fantasy games—came through with the art below.

Forget fancy remakes, let's just go ahead and redo the last half dozen or so FF games in the classic style!
