"Assassin's Creed" Film Targets "Next Coming Year," Possibly 2014

Ubisoft executive offers somewhat vague statement on adaptation's release

It's kind of a vague statement, but Ubisoft seems confident about its Assassin's Creed film making it to the public in "the next coming year." That's what Ubisoft Chief Sales and Marketing Officer Geoffroy Sardin told Gameindustry International, leading some to speculate on whether he means 2013 or 2014. The former sounds pretty improbable.

While it is being fast-tracked, 2014 still seems more likely for the Hollywood adaptation of Assassin's Creed, which recently benefited from a co-production and distribution partnership with New Regency and Fox. When that was announced, Ubisoft mentioned that they're hoping to have the director, script, and full cast packaged by next summer, so we'll have to wait to get more specifics on the production.

Some might want to point to Ubisoft's intention of tying the film's release with a new game launch for hints on the timetable, but Assassin's Creed is pretty much an annual installment now. Either way, anyone looking forward to the Michael Fassbender-starring adaptation?
