Star Trek has always been a very important part of my nerd life. While Star Trek: The Next Generation is the be-all end-all best thing ever for me, the recent J.J. Abrams reboot did a lot of things right, among them making Star Trek actually cool and relevant again. Okay, yeah, the villain was forgettable and the story was the basic Hero's Journey, but the characters--y'know, what drives the story--were spot-on! Everybody got a chance to shine! It was fast and fun and the moment-to-moment writing was great, even if the plot was ass!

So in the spirit of "don't listen to the haters who insist Amok Time and Arena have the best fight scenes ever," I can say that I'm pretty damn excited for Star Trek Into Darkness, the sequel to the 2009 alternate universe reboot. Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto return as Kirk and Spock with the rest of the gang in tow, and Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch gets to take on Starfleet as the as-yet-unnamed villain, although everybody assumes he'll be Khan Noonien Singh. Yeah, that Khan. Check out the recently-released teaser poster!
Okay, so the guys at Bleeding Cool were right--the poster does "borrow" a lot of style from Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy.
What about you? Are you looking forward to Star Trek Into Darkness? I usually ask folks to be civil, but Trek fans, sound off in the comments--do you like where the reboot is going?
