Acclaimed Director Sion Sono to Helm Manga Based TV Comedy "Minna! Esper Dayo!"

Shota Sometani cast as comedy's lead

Sion Sono, the director of warped, disturbing and often acclaimed films like Cold Fish, Suicide Circle, Love Exposure and the adaptation of manga Himizu, has been announced as the director of the recently revealed live-action TV series based on Detroit Metal City author Kiminori Wakasugi's comedy manga Minna! Esper Dayo! (Everyone is an ESPer).

Shota Sometani (Kimihiro Watanuki in the upcoming xxxHOLiC adaptation, the lead in Himizu) is a psychic from a small town in Oita prefecture who uses his super powers for less than super purposes.

Sono's other announced project is March 2013 movie Why Don't You Play in Hell, about two antagonist gangsters. The younger of the two has fallen in love with the elder's actress daughter. The elder wants to help the younger's wife get her own daughter cast in a movie.

He has limited prior TV experience, including contributions to Time Limit Investigator.
