"Yowamushi Pedal" Cycling Manga Gets Anime Adaptation

Wataru Watanabe's manga has been ongoing since 2008

This week's issue of Shōnen Champion magazine is revealing an upcoming TV anime adaptation of Yowamushi Pedal (Weakling Pedal), a cycling manga by Wataru Watanabe (Densha Otoko) that's been running in Akita Shoten's mag since 2008.

The official site should be open soon, and the adaptation is currently planned for 2013.

Watanabe's manga follows Sakamichi Onoda, an otaku who just wants to find more people to join the recently disbanded anime club with him. However, when a couple cyclists spy his skill in riding the bulky mamachari bike he's had since youth, they attempt to convince him to join the bicycle racing club instead.

Yowamushi Pedal was previously adapted into a stage play starring Ryōta Murai (Kamen Rider Kuuga in Kamen Rider Decade).
