We've been closely following the alpha version videos of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, and now it's almost time for the retooled MMO to enter its beta phase. Square Enix has detailed a four-phase plan, which kicks off in mid-February 2013, with a PlayStation 3 beta test to follow later.
The first three phases will last for a few weeks a piece, followed by 1-2 weeks of debugging after each, with a fourth phase entering open beta and lifting the non-disclosure agreement. PlayStation 3 beta testing begins in the third phase.
While all of the details and time periods are subject to change, Square Enix released a PDF with a fairly detailed road map, as well as in-depth plans for each individual phase.

As that last panel explains, the beta tester application site opens in January.
