Sony Ceases PlayStation 2 Production in Japan After Nearly 13 Years

Final shipment of consoles officially out the door

It's been a long and successful ride, but production on PlayStation 2 units is finally coming to an end in Japan. The last shipment is out the door and on the way to Japanese retailers, putting a cap on a nearly 13-year run. 

 

Sony launched PlayStation 2 in Japan on March 4, 2000, and has since pushed over 150 million units worldwide, making it the best-selling home console of all time.
