VIDEO: Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, Perfume, and Momoiro Clover Z's New Year's Live Performances

Three j-pop acts close out 2012 in style

The NHK Red and White Song Battle, AKA Kohaku, is an unstoppable New Year’s tradition where some of the biggest music acts in Japan are invited sing their hits of the year-that-was.

If you spend enough time hanging around with Japanese people YOU WILL be forced to watch Kohaku on New Year’s Eve and suffer through sentimental odes to “my hometown” and enka singer after enka singer in order to get to the good stuff. Well, to make things zip a long a little faster, I’m happy to present clips from last night’s Kohaku broadcast (yup, it's already 2013 in Japan....)  featuring artists who made the grade here at Crunchyroll News in 2012, starting with….KYARY PAMYU PAMYU!

This was Kyary’s prestigious Kohaku debut, and she didn’t disappoint with an incredible outfit, an outfit change, and a medley of her hits “Fashion Monster” and “Tsukemasu Tsukeru”.

Meanwhile, electro idols Perfume made their third Kohaku appearance with their song “Spring of Life”...

And last but not least, otaku idols Momoiro Clover Z dream came true when they also made their Kohaku debut, singing a medley called “Momoiro Kohaku Da Z!!”

I, along with lots of other people, will probably suffer through a full time-delayed Kohaku broadcast later tonight. So before it sucks me in, here’s my chance to tell you all…HAPPY NEW YEAR’S FROM CRUNCHYROLL NEWS!!!!!!!!
