Hayao Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli Classics Featured on Zippo Lighter Series

Movies from mature "Princess Mononoke" to kid oriented "Ponyo" featured

Here's a bit of cognitive dissonance for you. Hayao Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli classics from the more mature Princess Mononoke to the young child oriented Ponyo have been featured on a Zippo lighter collection.

If Hayao Miyazaki is ambivalent about the tie-in, it's more likely to be merchandising than the item's use. Despite pleas from fans and anti-smoking groups, like many workaholics in the anime field Miyazaki himself is a notorious smoker, puffing away on as many as 30 cigarettes a day during the making of Ponyo. In a 2008 interview, he commented "both of my parents were heavy smokers, though they didn’t die of lung cancer. So I’m OK. I scanned my lungs the other day and there was no problem."

If you hunt around online, prices range between $135 and $210.00.
