With Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, Square Enix hopes to close the book on Lightning's adventures in the Fabula Nova Crystallis setting. A recent interview with Lightning Returns developers Motomu Toriyama, Yoshinori Kitase, and Yuji Abe sheds some light on what Lightning is up to in her thirteen-day quest to stop the apocalypse.
According to Toriyama, Lightning's new outfit was designed by Tetsuya Nomura to symbolize "strength," highlighting her new role as a Liberator, a champion for Bhunivelze, a Fabula Nova Crystallis god.
More from Toriyama on the design:
"We asked him to represent her with the word 'strength' as the focus. Red and white were the dominant colors that represented Final Fantasy XIII, with that in consideration, I believe that the color red symbolizes strength better than any other. In the end, we decided to go half white and red for Lightning’s color scheme."
Does this new information about Lightning's armor as well as her motivations cast Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII in a different light for you?
