Nintendo Comments on Wii U Virtual Console Status

Development is moving ahead, plans include GamePad play without TV

There's a lot to like about what Nintendo's done with Wii U so far, but there's still so much potential being wasted in certain areas. Chief among these is the eShop and, more specifically, Nintendo's Virtual Console. The home to the classics on Wii and 3DS has yet to kick off on Wii U, but Nintendo finally has something to say about it.

Speaking with Kotaku, a Nintendo of America rep said, "We are moving ahead with development of Virtual Console for Wii U, and we plan to make it so you can play it on the Wii U GamePad alone."

Unfortunately, there's no confirmation as to when that will be. In the meantime, the Wii U eShop remains sparsely updated, so hopefully more offerings will come sooner than later. Sure, VC games have been historically pricy, but the thought of playing them on the GamePad alone is enticing.
