Try Out "Fire Emblem: Awakening" with a Demo on January 17

Nintendo also offers up free map pack for a limited time post-launch

Fire Emblem: Awakening is set to launch on Nintendo 3DS in North America on February 4, but you can sample some of what the strategy-RPG has to offer before it hits retail. Today Nintendo announced a demo, which will be available to download from the eShop on January 17.

Nintendo also went ahead and started outlining plans for the downloadable content, which kicks off on launch day with more maps available on a regular basis. The first hit, however, will be free for a limited time, with additional maps arriving at different price points.

On top of all that, new content will also be distributed via SpotPass for free, including new maps with new storylines, characters, and items. Players will be able to set up a StreetPass Team, as well, to exchange certain game data with other players, or simply show off their "renown," which is based on battles won. Remember, if you don't feel like trekking into the wild or waiting for a package, you can also purchase Fire Emblem: Awakening in the 3DS eShop.
