Grasshopper Manufacture Merges with GungHo Online Entertainment

The folks behind "Lollipop Chainsaw" and "No More Heroes" get acquired

GungHo Online Entertainment—publisher of Ragnarok Online, maker of Hero's Saga Laevatein Tactics and Puzzle & Dragons—shot out a press release to announce the acquisition of developer Grasshopper Manufacture. The two will be combining their respective efforts—Grasshopper's planning and development meets GungHo's online gaming and management expertise—to produce content together.

Past GungHo acquisitions include Game Arts (Grandia) and Acquire (Akiba's Trip, Tenchu). GungHo opened an American branch in 2012, led by XSEED co-founder Jun Iwasaki, and has since published games like Dokuro and Ragnarok Odyssey in the west.

Grasshopper Manufacture is best known for Suda51's wild style of game creation with the likes of No More Heroes, Shadows of the Damned, and Lollipop Chainsaw. Other recent releases include the collaboratively developed shooter Sine Mora and the Guild01 series of games on 3DS. Next up is Killer is Dead, which XSEED could be localizing. This move certainly makes it seem even more plausible.
