Samurai Performers Welcome Tourists At Nagoya Castle

"Nagoya Samurai Performers", a group of handsome samurai awaits visitors to Nagoya

Nagoya, a city rich in history with many samurai warriors has a new tourist attraction.  "Nagoya Omotenashi Busho Tai" ("Nagoya Samurai Performers"), a group of 10 members who perform as Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Kato Kiyomasa, Maeda Toshiie, Maeda Keiji, Tokugawa Ieyasu, Oda Nobunaga and their underlings at and around the city of Nagoya to promote the city.

The group's mission statements are:

1. To be the top at hospitality

2. Be the storytellor of history with romance

3. Always improve skills to perform and attract

4. Promote Nagoya worldwide

5. Inherit traditional culture to spread across the world

6. Be sincere and always do your best


Their blog is also written in the style of role play as their performance. Their popularity reached the point  of releasing their first CD single in 2011. Below are some items avalable at the group's online shop.

Nagoya Castle Candles (VERY CUTE!)


Originally started as the PR effort of the city of Nagoya with members consisting of people who applied through local unemployment agency including a female and a foreigner (both graduated the group in 2010), the group is now leading the wave of local idol / performance groups popping up all over Japan.


Just for laughs: Oda Nobunaga faces off with Darth Vader, who happened to visit Nagoya to promote the Star Wars Episode I 3D movie release in 2012 in the video below:
