Nintendo Declares 2013 the Year of Luigi

Mario's brother gets top billing in new DLC, full games, and more

Luigi has famously found himself on the sidelines for as long as anyone can remember. Even when he got his own game he was stuck vacuuming ghosts in a mansion, but Nintendo has decided to hoist him to the forefront. At this morning's Nintendo Direct event, it was declared that 2013 is officially the Year of Lugi.

Of course, Luigi is still going to be busting ghosts this year. We all know about Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, which is scheduled to haunt Nintendo 3DS on March 24, but some new games were announced, as well.

First off, the Mario & Luigi RPG series is back with a new installment, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. This one takes the duo into the mind of a sleeping Luigi, where they'll explore dreams that feature the lanky brother as a brave hero. More details will be announced soon, and it's currently scheduled to debut on 3DS this summer.

Mario Golf: World Tour is also heading to 3DS, though it's a bit of a stretch to call that one Luigi-centric. World Tour will offer simple controls, as well as a deeper experience for golf fans, all set across Mushroom Kingdom courses. This one is also due for a summer release, but you can go ahead and peep some screens below.

Luigi isn't just jumping into 3DS action, he's also taking over New Super Mario Bros. U on Wii U in the form of new downloadable content. New Super Luigi U offers up all-new alternate versions of the original game's 80+ stages, and will be available to purchase as a single download, which will be released this year.

What do you think about all that, Luigi?
