GREE and Yahoo Japan’s GyaO Create $1 Million Fund for Anime and Games

Future Content Partners to be formally established in May with 100 million yen

Japanese social gaming giant GREE has joined up with Yahoo Japan’s GyaO video portal to fund an investment in producing related anime and gaming content. The Future Content Partners venture, to be formally established in May, will receive 100 million yen in funding with an equal 50-50 ownership share between GREE and GyaO.

The venture extends a strategic alliance on content, gaming and mobile initiatives established last November. Earlier this month, the pair announced mobile gaming joint venture GxYz. GyaO says it will cooperate with the new venture, GREE and parent company Yahoo Japan on opening a “dedicated anime information portal site” for games, video content and digital books.

Recent GREE involved anime have included Tanken Drilland and upcoming Dancer Clinoppe.
