It's the 25th anniversary of My Neighbor Totoro, and a milestone that huge for one of Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki's most beloved films simply can't pass by uncelebrated. Viz is stepping to the plate with two releases, My Neighbor Totoro: A Novel and a new edition of the My Neighbor Totoro Picture Book.
The novel, written by veteran children's book author Tsugiko Kubo with original watercolor illustrations by Miyazaki, retells the story of Satsuki, Mei, and the magical forest spirit Totoro. The novel will be available on October 1.
My Neighbor Totoro Picture Book will also arrive on the same day. The updated version sports a new cover design, and features scene-by-scene illustrations and character dialogue.
For those who wish to celebrate themselves, the precise date of My Neighbor Totoro's 25th anniversary is coming up on April 16. The film was originally released in 1988.
