A new Tomb Raider film has been in the cards for a while now, but according to an interview over at Variety, it looks like the movie franchise will be rebooting in the same way Crystal Dynamics handled the latest game.
In fact, Crystal Dynamics is working closely with the producers at GK Films on the new movie, which will bring a younger Lara Croft to the big screen. "It was important for both of us to have a cohesive version of the franchise," said Crystal Dynamics head Darrell Gallagher. "We didn't want to see a film version that was a continuation of the old 'Tomb Raider' films."
That's probably a good thing considering the last film with Angelina Jolie as Croft, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, only managed to take in $67 million domestically when it hit screens in 2003. If they can pull off in the film what Crystal Dynamics did with the game, we could have a solid Tomb Raider flick on our hands.
