Japanese City Seeks Samurai Battle Parade Volunteers

Local volunteers are wanted for a parade in historical costume

Some of you may have heard of the Sanada clan in Ueda that existed during the Warring States period. One of the most famous Sanada clan members is Yukimura! The city that is famous for the Sanada clan's Ueda Castle, Ueda city in Nagano holds an annual festival in April. One of the biggest visitor attractions in the festival is the Samurai parade and the Sanada - Tokugawa battle play, and they accept volunteers for both.

 

 

 

[Volunteer group A, 50 people]

Join the parade as one of the Sanada clansmen.

Costumes are provided for free. Drop ins are welcome.

Need to be at least 130cm in height (4'2").

Parental consent needed for minors.

 

 

[Volunteer Group B, 30 people]

Act as soldiers of Sanada or Tokugawa and participate in staged combat.

Required to attend at least 2 practice sessions and 2 rehearsals.

Need to be in high school or older. Parental consent needed for minors.

 

 

[Volunteer Group C, 70 people]

Act as Tokugawa soldiers and participate in stage combat to get killed.

Required to attend 2 rehearsals.

Need to be in high school or older. Parental consent needed for minors.
