Suda51's Next Aims for Unique Online Feature on Next-Gen Consoles

New IP has been in development since November

Last week Grasshopper Manufacture and GungHo Online Entertainment teased some concept art for the next game from Suda51 (No More Heroes, Shadows of the Damned), with very little revealed other than the fact that it will be action-oriented with a woman lead. Now we know just a liiiittle bit more, including the fact that it's targeting next-gen consoles and a unique online feature.

Word comes from Edge, who talked to Suda51 about the new IP. According to him, it's been in development since November, with a release planned for 2014. The game's consoles of choice haven't been locked down, but they're currently investigating the specs and aiming for next-gen platforms.

Set in the near future, the action game features work from No More Heroes artist Yusuke Kozaki. Here's that lead visual again, which packs the tagline, "Whatcha looking at, commoner?"

Given the recent merger with GungHo, it makes sense that Suda51 and Grasshopper are planning some online/social features for the game. "On the simplest level it will be social, but the word social is used and misinterpreted a lot these days," Suda said, adding, "This is a very new style of online feature, so there's no example from the past."

While details are still murky, it should be interesting to see what Suda51 and co. manage to do with online features. In the meantime, we still have Killer is Dead to look forward to this summer.
