Hiroshi Takahashi's Crows manga has already produced a couple of solid film adaptations, with prequels Crows Zero and Crows Zero II from prolific director Takashi Miike (Audition, Ace Attorney, a billion others). Now it's another director's turn with a third film, Crows Explode, which looks to add the energetic style of Toshiaki Toyoda.
Toyoda made a name for himself in the late 90s/early 00s with films like Pornostar, Blue Spring (based on the manga by Tekkonkinkreet's Taiyō Matsumoto), and 9 Souls, but his career was derailed for a bit due to legal troubles.
Crows Explode will be set after the lead, played by Shun Oguri, has graduated, and will feature an almost entirely new cast, including Masahiro Higashide and Taichi Saotome. Production kicked off on April 2, and the film is currently targeting a 2014 release.
