A Portion of Nintendo Wii's Online Services to Shut Down in June

Nintendo Channel, News Channel, and more get the axe

Nintendo is getting ready to pull the plug on some of the original Wii's online services, with a number of them planned for shutdown in June. Channels getting the axe include Nintendo Channel, News Channel, Forecast Channel, Everybody Votes Channel, Mii Contest Channel, and some of the data exchange between friends like the ability to swap messages and Mii characters.

According to Nintendo, this goes into effect on June 28, after which these services will no longer be available, even if launched from the Wii menu. The Wii Shop Channel will still be active, and players should still be able to jam their favorite games online with friends for the time being.
