Dark Souls II had a grand gameplay premiere this past week, with Yui Tanimura on hand with IGN to show 12 minutes of gameplay and answer some questions. The subsequent trailer may not offer as much in terms of footage, but it does promise plenty of despair in the upcoming sequel.
A lot of fans are worried about Dark Souls II being dumbed down, or changed, or tinkered with in any way, but I think FromSoftware knows what they're doing. Hidetaka Miyazaki may not be directing this time around, but he's still been overseeing the project, and most of what has been shown so far indicates improvements primarily in atmosphere, visuals, and the overall emotions the game evokes.
After all, why mess with success? FromSoftware executive director Eiichi Nakajima recently revealed Dark Souls' sale figures, which totaled to 2,367,000 copies across all platforms. Not bad for such a beautifully unforgiving game.
