Disney Animation Lays Off Majority of 2D Animators

Many of these animators have been with the studio from "Beauty and the Beast" to "The Princess and the Frog"

When Mamoru Oshii made Sky Crawlers, he had to animate the dog fights in 3D because the talent for 2D mecha animation wasn't there anymore. It's tough to find 2D animators, but it's also tough to be a 2D animator. Described as an effort to keep up with rapidly changing technology, with no "traditionally animated" movies in the pipeline, late this week, Disney laid off most of their 2D animators, most of whom were veterans to the industry.

This includes Nik Ranieri, Ruben Aquino, Frans Visher, Russ Edmonds, Brian Ferguson, Jamie Lopez, and Dan Tanaka among others who have not been named. Many of these animators have been with the studio from Beauty and the Beast to The Princess and the Frog.
