Hollywood-size homage to Japanese mecha hits theaters this summer

Continuing something like a viral campaign, Warner Brothers has posted more in-universe pics from this summer's mecha versus kaiju blockbuster, Pacific Rim. The latest thread of hype for the fight against human extinction has been a series of pilot recruitment pieces. 



There's also a new international TV spot


Meanwhile, director Guillermo del Toro addressed Michael Bay's dismissal of the project as a Transformers knock-off.


"We are far, far, far away from that in a very willing fashion," he said. "For good or bad, this is my movie. This is my universe and my creation, and I do not create through comparison."


"The fights don't occur in well-lit, supercool, car commercial-looking environments. They occur in the middle of a raging sea storm or in a savage snowstorm. They happen in a universe that is incredibly saturated," he said, adding of Bay's unfair comparison, "And to some degree, the source of all artificial life is Frankenstein."
