This year's Madden 25 will, as usual, be gracing all the major consoles… or will it? According to an EA representative, the wildly popular NFL franchise plans on skipping Nintendo's Wii U this year, marking the first time the series has passed on Nintendo platforms since 1991.
It's not that we think many people here give a rip about Madden, but this is just another in an increasingly distressing volley of blows to Wii U's success. Madden is a massive franchise, and Madden 13 made it to both Wii and Wii U last year. The fact that it's skipping Wii U this time says a lot about the current state of Nintendo's home console sales.
EA released an official statement to make things seem more or less peachy:
"We will not be releasing a Wii U version of Madden NFL in 2013. However, we have a strong partnership with Nintendo and will continue to evaluate opportunities for delivering additional Madden NFL products for Nintendo fans in the future."
The takeaway from this is that it's just not worth it to release a port of Madden 25 on Wii U at this time. That doesn't bode well, but hopefully things will pick up for Nintendo in the near future.
