Annual "Talent Power" Rankings Put Perfume and Momoiro Clover Z Ahead of AKB48

Independant marketing firm surveyed recognition and interest this February

Looks like the dance-pop moves of Perfume and the wacky antics of Momoiro Clover Z (Bodacious Space Pirates, Joshiraku, the new Sailor Moon if it every happens) put a monkey wrench in the AKB48 machine with the two groups topping the mega-group in Nikkei Entertainment magazine's annual “Talent Power Rankings” survey.


Published in the June issue, on sale May 2nd, the female idol group list also included Nogizaka 46 (Magi's theme) and Sphere (Natsuiro Kiseki, Arata)

Haruka Ayase topped the overall power list. Across all categories, Momoiro Clover Z saw the third biggest increase in power score, having jumped from 8.2 in 2012 to 23.7. Kyary Pamyu Paamyu was no.4, jumping from 18.3 in 2012 to 32.8 this year in February.


The survey was conducted in February by by marketing independant marketing research firm, Architect Co., Ltd., who assigned a “talent power score” to each of 1251 artistes based on two criteria: familiarity (the number of survey respondents who were able to identify an artiste’s name and face), and interest level (the number of survey respondents indicating that they’d like to see, hear, and know more about the artiste).
