On today June 17th, popular anime voice actor/narrator/television variety show host Koichi Yamadera celebrates his 52nd birthday! Yamadera, often called "Yama-chan" by the fans, was born in Miyagi Prefecture on June 17th, 1961. The first anime character he played when he was 24 was Shinji Nakagawa, who was killed in the early part of the story, in the 1985 OVA Megazone 23.
Anime fans know him for his voice works for Ryouga Hibiki/P-chan in Ranma 1/2, Ryouji Kaji in Neon Genesis Evangelion, Togusa in Ghost in the Shell, and Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop. But among the Japanese general public, he is more famous as a TV host of the long-running morning variety show for kids, Ohasta -The Super Kids Station, which has been broadcasted on TV Tokyo since 1997.
