First "Kingdom Hearts" Game Had to Be Recreated Entirely for HD

Square Enix lost the original data, had to build the graphics again

Kingdom Hearts director Tetsuya Nomura shared some interesting info on bringing the first game into HD during an E3 interview, which you can watch below. One of the standout bits is the fact that the original Kingdom Hearts data is lost, forcing the team to recreate everything for HD.

"Kingdom Hearts 1 was created a long, long time ago," Nomura said, "so actually the original data was lost. So, we had to research and we had to dig out from the actual games available, and recreate everything for HD. We had to recreate graphics, and it was actually not that easy."

Nomura also revealed his favorite characters, Master Xehanort and Ansem, and that Kingdom Hearts III will have Final Fantasy characters once again. Check out the full video if you have roughly an hour to kill.

Square Enix also shared a bunch of new footage in another Square Enix Presents E3 2013 video, including a visit to Halloween Town and other areas.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX hits PlayStation 3 in North America and Europe on September 10 and 13, respectively.
