Mamoru Oshii Officially Joins Live-Action "Patlabor" Project

The project is slated for the 2014 release

It is officially confirmed today at Japan Expo in Paris that Mamoru Oshii, one of the original creators of the Mobile Police Patlabor anime series, will join the production of the upcoming live action adaptation project of Patlabor. The project was announced in March this year and is scheduled to be released in 2014.

According to Cinema Today's report, Oshii's name was displayed on the wall of the booth of Tohoku Shinsha which produces the project. Simultaneously in Japan, the teaser site for the project which was launched in March also credits Oshii's name, which says "Mamoru Oshii x The Next Generation - Patlabor -." It has been rumored that Oshii, who has directed several live action films, participates in the project in some form or another. This is the first official confirmation of his involvement with the project.

His role in the live action project has not been announced yet. And it is also unclear if other HEADGEAR

members (Kazunori Ito, Yutaka Izubuchi, Akemi Takada, Masami Yuuki) will join the project.

Considering the fact Oshii has been working on his first English language live action film The Last Druid:

Garm Wars (which is also slated for the 2014 release) right now, he will not be in the director's seat?

What do you think?
