NASA Announces GPM Mission Anime Character Contest Winners

One of the winners is a Japanese manga artist Yuki Kiriga

NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) announced the winners of the Global Precipitation Measurement mission's Anime Challenge on July 2. The GPM mission is a collaboration between NASA, JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency), and other international partners to help further understanding of Earth’s water and energy cycles. The two Grand Prix winners' characters in the contest will be featured in comic series to teach and promote the mission to the public.

One of the two Grand Prize winners was a Japanese manga artist from Tokyo, Yuki Kiriga. She has worked as a professional artist since 2002 and has supported the activities of JAXA for years. Another winner was 14-year-old Sabrynne Buchholz from Hudson, Colorado, who was the president of her school’s art club.
