As a longtime Superman fan, I really liked Man of Steel. Yeah, it had some pacing issues, but overall, it was a solid, appropriately melancholy superhero story with one hell of a dust-up at the end. Now, some of you may have already known that Warner and Legendary have approved a follow-up to Man of Steel, but today's big news at Comic-Con is that it's not just a Superman movie... it's a Superman and Batman team-up movie.
During Warner Bros.' Comic-Con panel, director Zack Snyder (300, Man of Steel) showed up and simply said "It's official. We're going to make another Superman movie." Then, he called actor Harry Lennix to read this scene:
So yes, that means Batman is going to be in the next go-around. The movie will be titled Superman & Batman (I would've personally preferred World's Finest), and Henry Cavill is set to return as the appropriately-burly-as-hell Superman. The film is slated for a 2015 release, will be directed by Zack Snyder, and is set to start a DC Cinematic Universe, part of the groundwork for a Justice League movie that's projected for a 2017 release. So far, there's no word on who will play Batman.
I've always been more of a Superman guy than a Bat-fan, but I'm ecstatic to see the DC movies start coming together. On average, DC Comics movies are a lot weaker than the Marvel movies, so I hope the DC Cinematic Universe keeps the same consistent quality as the Marvel Cinematic Universe. What about you? Do you think Superman & Batman is a good start to the DC Cinematic Universe? Which actors would you like to see don the cape and cowl as Batman? Sound off in the comments!
