No Story Mode or Cutscenes in Upcoming "Super Smash Bros."

Sakurai wants to avoid spoiling surprises for people who haven't played the game yet

Cutscenes are kind of a take-it-or-leave-it thing for me, but the new-to-the-franchise cutscenes in Super Smash Bros. Brawl were pretty awesome. Unfortunately, producer Masahiro Sakurai is plainly stating that the cutscenes won't be returning in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, and neither will the story mode (titled Subspace Emissary in Brawl).

Sakurai didn't like Brawl's cutscenes being leaked online, and wants to preserve the feeling of surprise for new players:

"Unfortunately, the movie scenes we worked hard to create were uploaded onto the Internet. You can only truly wow a player the first time he sees [a cutscene]. I felt if players saw the cutscenes outside of the game, they would no longer serve as rewards for playing the game, so I've decided against having them."

Instead, Sakurai and his team are putting together videos specifically designed to be shared online--the intro trailers for Mega Man, the Animal Crossing Villager, and the Wii Fit Trainer are among these. As for the story mode, Sakurai mentioned that the 3DS version would include something that would "act as a separate mode from the standard versus play," so basically a single-player mode of some kind. However, Sakurai did not go into further detail.

That's fine by me--I played Subspace Emissary exactly once, and literally spent the rest of my time playing Brawl with friends in Versus Mode. But what about you? The cutscenes and story mode for Brawl were pretty memorable despite being a new addition to the series--do you think they're going to be missed, or are best left out?
