Hideaki and Moyocco Anno Contribute Lanterns to Festival

Hideaki Anno takes a break from past years' Eva sketches

Married Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno and manga artist Moyocco Anno (Sakuran, Happy Mania) have made a bit of a tradition of contributing lanterns to the summer Bonbori Matsuri, held at the Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gū shrine in Kamakura.

In 2011 and 2012 Mr. Anno previewed Evangelion 3.0, while Mrs. had some attractive kimono sketches.

This year, Hideaki had something different in mind.

In English "The wind rises, we must try to live."

If that sounds familiar, Tatsuo Hori quoted the French poet Paul Valery in his Kaze Tachinu (The Wind Rises), which became an inspiration for Hayao Miyazaki's new Studio Ghibli movie, in which Anno voiced the lead.

On the other hand, she stayed traditional:

Other contributions of note include:

Yoshikazu Ebisu (Kuroi Gambler, The Man Who Saw Hell)

Keiko Takemiya (Toward the Terra)
