"Final Fantasy VII" on iOS and Android is Going to Take a Few Years

Team will have to wait until phones can handle the space it takes up

Last week we posted about Final Fantasy VI heading to smartphones, which had Square Enix director and producer Takashi Tokita saying Final Fantasy VII could follow if the rest of the Legacy series does well. Hopefully you didn't get your hopes too high, because that release is still likely years away.

The primary reason behind that wait? It all seems to come down to space, which Tokita, while talking to Shacknews, said remains a limitation.

While it's not impossible for them to develop Final Fantasy VII for mobile, Tokita said, "currently, space will be an issue. Phones won't be won't be able to contain the space it takes. It's over a gigabyte. People are probably going to have to wait a few years."

Apple currently has a 2GB limit on iOS games, and the PC release of FFVII was 3GB. Thus, Tokita reiterated, "It's definitely going to be years before we do the port."
