"The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD" Release Inspires Huge Wii U Sales Boost

September sales numbers leap to 200% more than August

Things haven't been too hot for Nintendo's Wii U since its launch, but recent months have seen an increase at last, coinciding with the release of big games like The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD and the price drop on September 20.

It wasn't just a little leap, either. Wii U sales in September jumped over 200% more than the previous month. This makes for a marked improvement over the period between April and July, which saw the poor console moving a meager 160,000 units

Outside of North America, Wii U also saw a major increase in the UK following the release of Wind Waker HD. Link's high-def adventure managed to inspire a 685% increase in weekly Wii U sales over there.

Nintendo still has a lot of catching up to do, so we'll have to see how Wii U performs as we approach the holiday season. Hopefully games like Super Mario 3D World and Wii Sports Club help move things along at an even brisker pace.

As for 3DS, well, it's still killin' it on the charts, so Nintendo's doing just fine in the portable department.
