After releasing two portable versions of otome game (titles aimed at women) Hakuoki, publisher Aksys has announced plans to bring another entry in the series to the United States, this time for PlayStation 3. Hakuoki: Stories of the Shinsengumi doesn't have a concrete release date, but it's "coming soon."
The story here centers on a young woman named Chizuru, who finds herself fighting alongside the infamous Shinsengumi in the midst of war between competing factions. Naturally, despite the tough times, love will be in the air.
Aksys details some of the key features, such as the ability to choose between six possible love interests and additional unlockable content, including a series of short stories that put the Hakuoki cast in a modern-day Japanese high school. Sounds like Hakuoki: Sweet School Life.
Downloadable content—like a massive art gallery and character viewer, as well as DLC side stories—will also be available.
Hakuoki has really made the media rounds since its debut. It's been adapted into manga, made into an anime film (with more on the way), and some Studio DEEN-animated TV series, which Sentai Filmworks licensed for digital and home video release.
