"Space Dandy" To Air On Adult Swim Next January, FUNimation Lands License

New series from key Cowboy Bebop staff announced at Otakon

AnimeAnime! is reporting that next January's Space Dandy from Shinichiro Watanabe and other key Cowboy Bebop staff will not only receive a Japanese TV broadcast and Pan-Asian TV broadcast via Animax, the series will also be aired on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block in a move reminiscent of the KuroKami TV simulcast, which was produced and handled by Sunrise. Work on licensing the series for European territories is also underway according to the report, with Madman handling Australia/Oceania.

For those that remember the Kurokami TV simulcast, the series was simultaneously produced and dubbed in English within the same production timeframe as the weekly Japanese broadcast. Space Dandy being given the same treatment would mean that BONES is expecting the series to be another global hit on par with Cowboy Bebop, even though the TV simulcast for Kurokami wasn't as successful as expected.

To further confirm the report, the official blog for Space Dandy is also confirming the Adult Swim broadcast for next January, adding credence to the development. More information is expected to be forthcoming, but this is indeed an interesting development for Space Dandy.

Bandai Visual has also announced that FUNimation is the licensor for the series in North America and will release the series on home video as well as handle streaming and merchandise rights along with handling dub production. Anyone have any guesses on who could be in the dub cast?

Finally, the site added more Japanese cast member information.
