Gainax to Produce "Mahou Shoujo Taisen/Magica Wars" TV Anime Adaptation

The battle between 47 magical girls?

It is officially announced that a TV anime adaptation of a web project Mahou Shoujo Taisen/Magica Wars is in the works. The TV anime, which is slated for spring 2014, is produced by acclaimed studio Gainax (Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gurren Lagann). The project was originally started as a part of the web-TV program 2.5 Jigen Terebi (2.5 Dimension TV) in June 2012. It held an illustration contest to collect illustrations of magical girls who represent 47 prefectures in Japan via Pixiv, the largest internet community for artists. The total entries were 3,248. A browser game "Magica Wars Tactics" and iOS game "Magica Wars Lock-On" featuring the selected characters will be also launched in December. More details about the anime including the story and voice cast will be announced later.
