Japanese Foreign Ministry Appoints "Slam Dunk" Manga Author as Japan-Spain Goodwill Ambassador

For the 400-year relationship between the two countries

Japanese Foreign Ministry announced on December 2 that they appointed Japanese manga artist Takehiko Inoue, who is well known internationally for his manga works Slam Dunk and Vagabond, as a Japan-Spain goodwill ambassador to promote the 400th anniversary of diplomatic exchanges between the two countries. His manga works have been well-received in Spain and he published an art book "Pepita: Takehiko Inoue Meets Gaudi" last year, which was inspired by the most famous Spanish Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi. As one of the memorial events, "Gaudi-Takehiko Inoue Exhibition" (tentative name) featuring his Gaudi-related works will be held in Barcelona in April 2014. Inoue will serve as one of the three goodwill ambassadors from December 2, 2013 to July 31, 2014.
