"Lupin the Third" Featured on Motorcycle Number Plates

Following "Kotoura-san" and "Galaxy Express 999"

Sakura-city in Chiba Prefecture has announced that it will start issuing 3,000 motorcycle number plates featuring one of the most famous Japanese manga/anime characters, Arsène Lupin III, on April 1 in commemoration of its 60th anniversary, for the original creator of the series Monkey Punch lives in the city now. The Lupin illustration is taken from the famous scene in the first TV season's OP. It was reused/remade several times in the following series including Hayao Miyazaki's 1979 film The Castle of Cagliostro.

Number plates featuring famous anime characters have been a trend in Japan recently. In December 2013, Kotoura-cho in Tottori Prefecture issued plates for motorcycles and light motor vehicles using Haruka Kotoura from Enokizu's manga series Kotoura-san. And Nerima-ward in Tokyo has featured Maetel from Leiji Matsumoto's Galaxy Express 999 on plates for motorized bicycles.
