"Power Rangers" Movie Reboot Announced

Saban teams up with Lionsgate in movie deal

Haim Saban and Lionsgate announced today a deal to produce a new live action film based on Power Rangers, the now over 20 year-old franchise that, in its TV incarnation, incorporated footage from Toei's Japanese tokusatsu Super Sentai series.

“Lionsgate is the perfect home for elevating our Power Rangers brand to the next level,” Saban said. “They have the vision, marketing prowess and incredible track record in launching breakthrough hits from The Hunger Games to Twilight and Divergent. In partnership with the Lionsgate team, we're confident that we will capture the world of the Power Rangers and translate it into a unique and memorable motion picture phenomenon with a legacy all its own.”

Creator Haim Saban regained ownership of the franchise in 2010 after seven years under The Walt Disney Company. Two previous feature films were distributed by 20th Century Fox in 1995 and 1997.
