Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department announced on May 13 that they arrested a 38-year-old unemployed man from Kagawa Prefecture on suspicion of copyright infringement (an infringement of public transmission rights). According to the police's top official, the suspect is accused of uploading two episodes of Dokidoki! PreCure TV anime to the internet using the file-sharing software Perfect Dark last December and making them watchable for an unspecified large number of people within the day when the episodes were broadcasted.
The police also thinks that he had uploaded about 800 episodes of various shoujo anime including PreCure, Lady Jewelpet, and Aikatsu! to the internet between August 2008 and February 2014. The episodes had been illegally downloaded about 225,000 times. The suspect has already confessed to his crime saying, "I was interested in shoujo anime and wanted to please other users."
Again, uploading and downloading TV programs (anime, drama, variety show, etc.) without its copyright
holder's permission are illegal in Japan.
