"Frozen" Tops Japan's Box Office in First Half of 2014 with 26 Billion Yen

Also selling Sells 2.5 Million Blu-ray/DVD sets in three weeks

The top 10 results for Japan's box office for the first half of this year have come out. As reported, Walt Disney Studio's 3DCG musical fantasy film Frozen takes the top spot overwhelmingly, earning 6 times more than the top-grossing Japanese anime film Lupin the 3rd vs. Detective Conan: The Movie. Frozen, which is still running in theaters in Japan, has earned 26 billion yen (about US$247 million) in 22 weeks, and will no doubt reach the record of the second highest-grossing film of all time in Japan, James Cameron's 1998 film Titanic's 26.2 billion very soon. In addition, the "MovieNEX" set of the film, which contains both a DVD and Blu-ray disc, has sold impressive 2,553,018 units in Japan as of August 3, in three weeks since its release on July 16.
