"The Last -Naruto The Movie-" Dominates Japan's Weekend Box Office

The best opening record for the anime franchise

The highly anticipated 10th Naruto film The Last -Naruto The Movie- was finally released on 266 screens across Japan last Saturday on December 6. It earned an impressive 515,331,800 yen (about US$4.25 million) on 396,280 ticket sales, easily topping the weekend box office. Comparing with the first two-day record of the 9th film Road to Ninja released in July 2012, it was 55 percent up, and also the highest opening in the anime franchise. According to distributor Toho, it is highly possible to expect The Last will finish its run with about 2 billion yen. The current top-grossing Naruto film is Road to Ninja with 1.48 billion yen.
