It is announced on the July 2015 issue of Monthly Comic Zenon, officially published today in Japan, that a new anime based on Tsukasa Hojo's City Hunter manga series is in the works. It will be released as a bonus OAD for the purchasers of all 12 volumes of the manga's upcoming new editions titled "City Hunter XYZ Edition," which will be published for the 30th anniversary of the manga started in 1985. The first two volumes are scheduled to be released on July 18 at the price of 1,728 yen (about 14.20 US dollars) each.
The OAD episode will focus on the protagonist Ryo Saeba's marriage proposal to the main heroine Kaori Makimura. The original voice cast of the anime series in the 1980s-90s, including 68-year-old Akira Kamiya as Ryo and 56-year-old Kazue Ikura as Kaori, are expected to reprise the roles.
The long-running action series was previously adapted into four TV anime (1987-1991), three TV specials
(1996, 1997, 1999), three anime films (1989, 1990, 1990), one Hong Kong live-action film starring Jackie
Chan (1993), and one Korean TV drama (2011).
